When Cristin and Angus decided to become first-time homeowners, they had big ideas but really did not know where to start. A mortgage broker recommended Emily Gregoire to help them navigate the market and educate them on buying their first home. Emily’s specialty on the Michelle Walker team is to assist first-time buyers in finding the right home. Their first meeting was at a Starbucks where everyone soon realized they shared a love for Pumpkin spice lattes.
Cristin and Angus hoped they could buy a home in downtown Toronto that would be close to their work and everything that this area has to offer. In addition, they wanted a place where they could put down roots and stay for a while. With Toronto’s overheated housing market, it quickly became apparent that unless they wanted a condo, they would have to look beyond downtown.
“Emily spent the time to educate us and keep our expectations in check for what was possible in the downtown core. She also suggested that we focus on finding the perfect home vs downtown. This allowed us to cast the net wider in our search,” said Cristin
Emily worked with Cristin and Angus to determine what their first home should look like. This included a larger house with a big back yard in a great neighbourhood. If the home were outside the downtown area, rapid transit and easy highway access would be a must. Their journey ultimately led them to the Oshawa area where they were able to find several great homes to consider. In the end, Cristin and Angus selected a fully detached house in Oshawa with a swimming pool in the back yard. Best of all they were able to secure a quick closing and be in their new home in less than two months.
